What is a Virtual
Instrument Sample Library?
- A Virtual Instrument Sample Library is a collection of recorded sound
samples that have been edited and designed to be played together.
- This collection of samples functions as a "Virtual" Musical Instrument and
is able to be "played" using MIDI
data.
- Jayzen Virtual Instruments are:
- High-quality recordings of natural and synthesized musical
instruments.
- Designed to give amazing sound quality and maximum flexibility when
composing as well as when performing live.
- Available in Soundfont and GigaStudio
formats.
How do you use
a Virtual Instrument?
- A Virtual Instrument needs to be loaded into some form of sample playback
device before it can be used.
- This can be a hardware sampler, a software sampler, or a combination device
such as a SoundBlaster audio card.
- When loaded into a sampler, Virtual Instruments can be played using a
standard MIDI keyboard, a guitar synth such as the Roland
GR-33, a wind-controller, drum-pads such as V-drums, or played directly from
pre-recorded MIDI data via a software sequencer such as Sonar,
Cubase, Logic, Pro-Tools, or Acid Pro.
What software do I
need to use a Virtual Instrument?
- Jayzen Virtual Instruments can be used in most current
software and hardware samplers. For example:
- Creative Sound Blaster AWE, Live!, and Audigy
soundcards.
- Creative E-mu soundcards.
- EXS-24, Fruity Loops, GigaStudio3, GigaVI,
HALion, Kontakt, Kompakt,
Sfz, VSampler3, etc....

Why are
Jayzen Virtual Instruments available in two different formats?
- Having different formats ensures our products can be widely used. In
addition, the GigaStudio format allows for larger file sizes
and advanced programming features that are not possible with the
Soundfont format.
- We have two separate product lines available:
- .sf2 = Soundfont format (compatible with
most major software and hardware samplers).
- .gig = Native format for GigaStudio and
compatible software samplers.
- If you are looking for a high-quality software sampler at a budget price
that has most of the features of GigaStudio, take a look at
Vsampler by MAZ Sound Tools. It is able to
import both Soundfont and GigaStudio formats.

What is the
advantage of using a Virtual Instrument over simply recording the instrument
itself?
- Jayzen Virtual Instruments give you access to a wide
variety of amazing sounds that can be immediately added to your own music
compositions.
- All the hard work has been done for you... Simply load up the instrument and
begin playing... no need to actually own the instrument, tune it up, play it
correctly, set up good-quality microphones, record it, EQ it,
etc.
- All Jayzen Virtual Instruments are designed as "mastered"
versions: full, rich-sounding instruments, EQ'd and dynamically mastered to
sound great on their own, and when mixed into your own compositions.
- Jayzen Virtual Instruments sound great in almost every
context with a minimum of "tweaking". This makes your life much easier...
allowing you to get on with exploring creative ideas and not get bogged down in
the technical details of recording.
